Youth Theatre

The Harlequin has a vibrant youth theatre with 80 members aged between 8 to 16 years. Members of each group performs at the end of each term on the main stage at The Harlequin Theatre. The Senior Group also perform at other venues throughout Surrey and in regional youth drama festivals.

All classes are taught by experienced professional directors.  Beth Wood has been the Director of the Youth Theatre at The Harlequin since 2002.  She is also Artistic Director of The Arc Arts Centre in Caterham and ACT Touring Company.  She was a founding member of Theatre Exchange, is a drama consultant for 4Sm writes drama activities for Longman's Shakespeare books and has won awards for youth work from SUrrey County Council, the South East Youth Arts Consortium and The Times.

The terms are 10 weeks and cost £65.  These take place 5 weeks before the half term holidays and 5 weeks after the half term holidays.  There are no additional costs, you do not pay to be in productions and we provide the costumes.

Juniors

Mondays 5pm - 6.30pm for 8 - 12 years

Seniors

Thursdays 5pm - 7pm for 13 - 16 years

Do you want to have fun, make friends and create high-quality performances? Weekly workshops and productions at the end of each term offer young actors, directors and technicians the opportunity to work with professional theatre practitioners as well as having lots of fun.

Holiday Activities

We run one day drama courses, from 10am to 3.30pm in each half term and in the Easter Holidays. The productions are great fun to work on, produced to a very high standard and normally culminating in an informal presentation for parents/carers at 3pm. ACT – Adult Drama Classes

Mondays 5pm – 9.30pm for 16 years +

If you’re over 16 and want to tread the boards, The Harlequin also runs an adult company which explores acting, directing and producing techniques through masterclass sessions and performs regularly both at the Harlequin and in other local theatres.
